How often should I get my boiler serviced

How often should I get my boiler serviced?

Now, if you’re asking this question, let me hit you with one back!  What do you want from your Boiler?

Have you just purchased a boiler? Have you inherited this Boiler?  Is this Boiler doing what you want to do?

Sounds strange asking these questions, nevertheless, but there is a reason why I ask.

A New Boiler?

If you’ve just purchased this boiler.  There is a very good chance that Boiler comes with a form of guarantee or warranty depending on the brand of Boiler who have purchased.  A stipulation or terms and condition of said warranty or guarantee.  Is that the boiler is serviced annually?  That means once a year.

Normally, this is done on the anniversary of the Boiler.  The Boiler’s birthday, if you will.  Give or take a few weeks, that’s fine.  Miss it at your peril.  With lengthy guarantees or warranties.  Manufacturers, will avoid this the moment they hear you have not had this annually serviced.

Alternatively we know how much it costs to have a boiler installed.  Whether it’s a straightforward like for like he only swap.  Or, you’ve changed things around and gone for something pressurised.  Regardless, this will always cost a pretty penny.

A penny saved is a penny earned

And think of it like you’re protecting your investment.  No different to when you buy a car.  You want to drive around in that car knowing that you are safe.  You are going to want to put fuel in that car and know that that car is as efficient as it possibly can be.

The way in which we test the emissions of the boiler, is via a flue gas analyser.  As a company we tend to use Kane and Anton.  There is a calibrated each year to make sure they are performing to their optimum.  No different to your Boiler.  Like anything the way in which it’s maintained determines how long it will last. Along with how well it performs.

However we can use this analogy, for most things really.  Cars tend to be one we use a lot.  Anything mechanical, anything you rely on.  That small investment today, could save you a lot of money moving forward.  In the long run.

We don’t have money to throw away, especially in this day and age.  The cost of living crisis is exactly that, a crisis.  Arguably, your boiler will be used more than your car.  Especially in the winter.  So not only do you want to maintain that warranty or guarantee.  You want that boiler to work efficiently and safely.

Did you inherit this boiler?

Moreover, all the more reason to have this boiler serviced annually.  You may not have any information on the condition of the boiler and its current state.  You may not know if it’s been looked after.  How do you know it’s safe?  How do you know how efficient the boiler is and how well it’s performing?

A boiler service can tell you how well the Boiler is performing.  With the case off, you can check the condition of the boiler.  On a Plumble service, we’ll even check the water quality.  A dirty system is an unhappy system.  We will check the safety devices built within the boiler.  Check the stability of your appliance.  Making sure the flue is fitted correctly.  I employ anybody that isn’t inherited a boiler.  To get it checked.

So many situations where these things have been left.  Situations where if the boiler had been serviced, would that leak have manifested into what it is today? Soo many preventable costly repairs, if only the boiler had been looked after. Would the cost of the repair be so high today as it would’ve been had it been previously serviced?

Caution!

Customers are not allowed to take their case off their boilers.  The case is an integral part of the boiler and fitted incorrectly can affect combustion.  So how do you know how your boiler is doing without the case off?  A boiler service that’s how!

Now you may be considering replacing the boiler.  Why would you have that serviced when you’re going to get rid of it?  Well, we can check the gas pressure and make sure your new boiler will have sufficient gas.  Something not known less tested.  Checking your water pressure whilst there.  We can check your water quality.  Our objective is all the while it’s being used, check it safe.

Summarise

To go back to the original question.  How often should I get my boiler serviced?  The answer really is quite simple.  Once a year.  Annually.  We thought we’d add the reasons as to why it’s super important.
