How much does it cost to have a combi put in?

Now here’s a question we hear super often…

In this blog, we will talk about:

What’s involved to install a new Combi boiler?

Additionally, what is involved when you’re converting to a Combi boiler?

Where best to install one. Location, etc

The cost of both of these types of jobs and the prices you can expect

The benefits of a Combi boiler

And…

The downfalls of a Combi boiler, things you should be aware of.

Now many years ago, the Combi boiler didn’t exist.  However, as with any technology, and our needs have changed.  The idea of something that can do everything, became ever so appealing.  Moreover, do it instantly.  With the likes of geysers and/or Ascot heaters and big floor standing heat only.  Or conventional boilers.  The technology was there, just in separate units.  Someone saw, someone conquered.  , the birth of the Combi boiler!

Something that can do everything in one unit.  Hence the name combination.  A combination, of a boiler that can do heating.  And a boiler that can do Hot Water.  The Combi boiler or combination boiler.

Now we have two types of people in our industry when it comes to advice.  We have tellers and we have sellers.

Often, we we get quotes for new works and installations.  With this comes opinion, facts, obstacles and the biggest one for me, disruption and how this work will affect your home.  Not just in the short term but the long-term.

As with all new tech technologies, we have to learn, adapt and overcome.  But we’re jumping ahead of ourselves here, let me work on the order of things.  So here we go.  Just how much does it cost to have a combi put in?…

What’s involved to install a new Combi boiler?

Now, if you have a hot water cylinder and you wish to remove this.  You may want to create some additional space for a loft extension.  Or even, you just like the idea big cupboard for some additional storage.

We all need storage.  The idea of having instant hot water on demand.  Well., that really does meet our lifestyle these days.  As many of us work shift patterns. Our lives are very much on the go.  We need our appliances and technologies to work for us.

The best advice we can say at this stage, is that, you have to be mindful where all your hot taps are located.  Your boiler will be producing your hot water.  You must be mindful of how long this will take to get there.

Now you won’t necessarily know what the pipes are doing under floors in walls, et cetera.  But we can use best logic and best guesses.  If you live in a three story townhouse.  And you would like your boiler in your loft.  Your kitchen which may be located on the ground floor, well that’s a very long way.  You could potentially become very frustrated with how long or how much water is wasted for those downstairs apertures.

However, a Combi boiler in the right location, with the right checks haven’t been performed.  Well. It can be a great addition to any Home.

With higher output Combi boilers nowadays, you can achieve. unvented pressures and flows when you have one appliance running at any one time.

Things to bear in mind, a Combi boiler heavily relies on a good mains pressure.  Without this boiler is useless.  Your choices are very much limited to what you have coming into your home.  Which is why we believe when you are changing over to combi system, you have someone come round and check this.

Tom, How much does it cost to have a combi put in? The average cost of a combination boiler installation, when moving from a tank fit system.  Well, you can be looking anywhere from £3,000 – £5,000 (but as we have anything, there are an awful lot of variables). This however, should give you a good idea on a budget expectation.

Variables to consider, flueing, gas supply, boiler outputs, brand of boilers, controls, power flushing etc.  We highly recommend you have a visit from a trained professional that can talk you through all of these options and cement down a quotation with a defined specification.  Giving you a full understanding of the level of disruption you can expect to experience. Doing this will help you understand How much does it cost to have a combi put in.

Replacing a Combi boiler

Now, if you’ve enjoyed a combination Boiler for years, well there’s really not much to this, replace it with something similar.  In order to replace it with something similar.  You need to understand the current output of your existing boiler.  This can be found on the boiler somewhere.  This can vary from a manufacturer to the next.  But all boilers will have a specification label.  Or, if your boiler is safe for example an alpha 28C.  Well, your boiler is likely to be 28 kW.  Now with Combi boilers.  Their outputs are normally very similar throughout the ranges for heating.  Most will be set around 24 kW.  Which would do many homes within the UK.  The kilowatt output set in the boiler name is mainly going to reflect the Hot Water outputs.  Which is why we say if you’re happy with what you’ve had.  Then go for something similar.

However, if you are looking for improvements on the shower quality.  How quickly your bath fills.  Then again, we’d recommend a visit where your flow rates and pressures can be checked by a professional with professional kit.  Only when you have these, can you make an informed decision as to how big you can go with your new Combi boiler?

SO… How much does it cost to have a combi put in?  The average cost of a combination boiler replacement.  Well, you could be starting at around £2000 and can get anywhere up to £4-£4,500.

SGood things about a combi boilero what’s great about the Combi boiler?

In the right situation, they are an amazing Boiler.  Hot Water on demand. (we don’t say instant Hot Water here.) High-pressure outputs.  Which allow for great showers.  They save space. Removing tanks can allow you a blank canvas for home improvements.  Moreover, give you more cupboard space.

Was not so great about a Combi boiler?

If the boiler location isn’t right, you could find yourself wasting a lot of water.  Along with, lengthy wait times for it to get there.

Multi tap operation, Combi boilers don’t like two things running at the same time.  Regardless of Combi boiler, output size et cetera.  You will notice a reduction in flow rates if something else is running elsewhere.  Cold for washing machines dishwashers et cetera.

Bad things about a combi boilerLarger gas supply needed!  If you’re going from Heat only Boiler, with tanks.  To a combination boiler.  Well, there’s a good chance your gas supply will not be big enough and you’ll need to factor this into your disruption element of your project.  As sometimes a new gas is needed from the meter to your new appliance.

Disruption to your home.  Depending on where things are located.  Ripping out tanks and pipework and running new.  This can have a big impact on your home.

What would Plumble recommend?

We are big fans of Worcester Bosch boilers here, they have plenty within their range.  With low output boilers to big beefy high output boilers.

And with new ranges within their portfolio, we feel that most budgets can now afford to have a Worcester Bosch boiler installed within their home.

Their products are not only 2nd to none, they win awards each year, their backup service is absolutely brilliant.

Check out their boilers here
